waha residency rules

The Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA), the governing body of youth hockey in Wisconsin, sets boundaries for all of it's member associations.  WAHA rules state that no player may play for any association other than the association certified by WAHA to serve the area in which the player resides on a permanent basis.  Conversely, no association may accept any player from any area served by another association, whose boundaries are certified by WAHA.

Our association borders several other associations and the boundaries in Southeastern WI that WAHA has certified generally follow school district lines. For example, youth participants residing in (not attending) the area school districts of Elmbrook, Sussex-Hamilton, Menomonee Falls, and Wauwatosa school districts play for Elmbrook.  There are a few exceptions to this rule although transfers may be requested.  These rules are outlined in the WAHA Guidebook, Rules & Regulations, Article I, Section D (on page 48 of the 2019-2020 Guidebook).  Here is a link to the Guidebook:   https://scripts.wahahockey.com/scripts/WAHABook/2019/2019%20WAHA%20Guidebook.pdf

WAHA added an expanded Residency Rule beginning in the 2019-2020 season.  The expanded rule reads that if someone from one association questions the residency of a player from another association, the parent or legal guardian of the player in question will need to produce proof of residency.

If you have any questions regarding this rule or the WAHA guidelines, please contact the EYHA Registrar, Treasurer, President, or other board member.
